So many evenings I've been too tired or too lazy to shower, knowing I'll regret it the next morning. Sure enough, I always wake up with second day, greasy, flat, and overall unsightly hair. Although I won't often admit it, if my hair and makeup look good, it's an immediate sign that my day will be good as well, however, if they look bad, it usually means my day is down the drain, but it doesn't have to be that way. Little did I know that second day hair is actually great for styling elaborate and intricate looks- it even makes my ponytails look slicker and more chic, and that my makeup doesn't need to be compromised either. Here are some tips for making your second day hair (and makeup) fabulous, without the morning troubles.

Second Day Hairstyle

Hair:

1. Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo serves two very important purposes; one is that it refreshes and cleanses the hair, and the second is that it gives the hair more volume. I had an "ah-ha" moment one morning when my hair looked shiny and flat; I sprayed some dry shampoo on my roots, and it gave me volume, and mattified my hair, making it look as though I had just taken a shower. Perhaps the most difficult part when it comes to dry shampoo is finding the right one. So many beauty companies will produce dry shampoo, but it's difficult to assess their quality. Here is a link to a great site that ranks 54 of the top dry shampoos: https://www.reviews.com/dry-shampoo/ Their top recommendation is the the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. Click here to buy it on Amazon.

2. Ponies

Pony tails are my go-to when my hair is being bothersome, or simple doesn't look good. I like putting my hair in a high ponytail just to give it some extra perk. Because my hair is so thick, the ponytail will usually curve up rather than droop downwards, but if your hair is thinner, you can create the same look by sliding a bobby pin under the ponytail, to push it upwards. Whether it's a hot day and your hair is frizzing up, or you were rushing out the door and had no time to shower, a pony tail will never fail you.

3. Braids, buns, and hairbands

Braids are a special type of hairdo in that they require volume, and hair that is not entirely clean. This is because braids hold better to hair that is frizzier, and a little dirtier, because clean hair slips out easily. The same goes for buns, as the hairband you use will hold onto your hair better. Create a high messy sock bun or a low librarian bun for an easy, every day look. Lastly, hairbands are a classic when it comes to covering up dirty hair. There's so many different looks you can create, in very little time!

Makeup

When it comes to second day makeup, it's very important that you begin your routine by thoroughly cleansing your face. I recommend a simple Neutrogena Cleanser- click here for my favorite one on Amazon. After using a cleanser, you can begin this simple makeup routine!

1. Bare Minerals Powder Foundation (link)

This foundation covers up shine like no other. It mattifies the skin and minimizes the appearance of pores, acne, and blackheads. This is very important for second day makeup, as oil tends to build up on the face. If you want, you can take foundation a step further and keep blotting papers with you to fend off any shine.

2. Nars Mascara (link)

When it comes to mascara, you need something that will stay on your lashes all day, through tears, sweat, and rain. This Nars Mascara does just that. Although not directly stated, this mascara is 100% waterproof, making it perfect for any occasion. However, unlike other waterproof mascaras, it's very easy to take off with some makeup remover. I highly recommend it for daily use.

3. Too Faced Bronzer (link)

I recently discovered this bronzer, and have been in love ever since. It's rich pigmentation allows for very little use of the product. Just swipe some on below your cheekbones and on your forehead to give your face dimension and a nice subtle glow.

4. Juicy Couture Perfume (link)

Although this product is not makeup, it's always best if you leave the house smelling fresh. I particularly love this Juicy perfume because it's the perfect mix of floral and sweet scent. Whatever perfume you prefer, dab some onto your neck and wrists to prolong the scent.

That's all! I hope you all enjoyed this how-to on second day hair and makeup! Make sure to subscribe to receive emails whenever I come out with a new post, as well as leave a comment telling me what you would like to see next!
